5 Things You NEED to Know Before Going to Medieval Times

3

This weekend, I had the opportunity to visit the Medieval Times castle with most of my family of seven. My husband and I elected to leave our youngest two at home but took our teen, tween, and 3 year old to see the show.

It’s hard to believe I’ve lived in Dallas for 30 something 😉 years and have never been to Medieval Times. I’m not sure who was more excited about it — me or the kids.

And we had every reason to be excited. We ALL had a great time and look forward to going back! I think everyone should go at least once and if nothing else, the looks on the faces of your children will make it all worth it!

Here are 5 things you NEED to know before going to Medieval Times:

1. There are no utensils. You really do eat your food with your hands. After all, that IS how they ate in medieval times. It might be a good idea to ask for some extra napkins, or just bring some baby wipes in your purse. But, if you’re like me, you already have baby wipes in your purse. 🙂

2. There’s a set menu. Our menu consisted of soup, bread, chicken, ribs, potato wedges, and an apple dessert. Your picky eaters might not like it, but you do get boxes to take your leftovers home. And, you each get a LOT of food!

3. You may find your young child spending the entire show on your lap. Although children under 3 are free as long as they sit on your lap and eat from your plate, our youngest child with us was 3 and he still spent the entire time on his daddy’s lap. It was just so much easier for him to see everything.

4. Take your allergy medicine. Ok, this might not apply to everyone, but I have pretty bad allergies. I wished I had taken my allergy medicine before we left since I’m allergic to horses. After all, that’s why you’re there, to watch the amazing horses and their very talented riders, the knights.

5. Get there early! There really is so much to see and much more to offer you than just the two hours of entertainment in the arena. The doors open 75 minutes before the show and you can explore the gift shop, see the horses in the stalls, and even observe the master falconer and his birds of prey up close. The shows often sell out and there is no assigned seating. The earlier you get there, the better your seats will be.

Our family had such a great time sitting on the edge of our seats the entire time because there was just so much to take in and we loved every minute of it.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ALWAYS looking for fun family events to experience with my crew. Don’t let the looks on faces of the males in our family fool you! We ALL had a great time and this is a memory that won’t be forgotten!

  1. Ok, confession time: I’ve lived in Dallas for five years, and we’ve been to Medieval Times every single year, sometimes twice. I LOVE it. My hubby makes fun of me, but it’s one of my favorite things to do. Glad your family had a blast!

  2. Hello!

My son and I are preparing a trip to Orlando, and there is a MT there. He’s turning 3 towards the year in July. He’s also a picky eater.

In your professional, motherly opinion, should I just purchase a ticket for me and have him sit on my lap?
