Dallas Moms Need To Know: A Guide to the Month of June

0

Fire up your summertime playlist, we made it to June, y’all. Let’s pause for just a sec to remember those last-day-of-school feelings, when teachers were taking everything down from classroom walls and you got to watch The Little Mermaid AT SCHOOL because nothing else was happening. Now reapply that excitement to your kids’ lives, and make it last all summer. Easy-peasy, yeah?

The Guide below is just a glimpse of some of the more interesting events happening around the city to help you plan your month of June. We maintain a full calendar of events here, and when you subscribe to our Newsletter, you’ll get this list sent straight to your inbox! Enjoy!

All Month ::
Studio Movie Grill has a Children’s Summer Series that gets you out of the heat and into the theater for just $1! Dates and offerings vary by location, so check the link for specifics. This month they’ve got How to Train Your Dragon, Rio, Turbo, and Trolls.

June 2 :: Fair Park Sparks brings us food, kid-friendly fun and games, live music, and a fireworks show to ring in the summer. 4-11pm. Free admission + $5 parking.

June 2 :: First Friday at Nash Farm in Grapevine is Victorian-themed this month. For a $3 participation fee, you can recreate Victorian summer vibes and play old-timey games. Are you envisioning one of those big rolling hoop things, because I sure am. 10am to noon.

June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 :: Every Friday at 9:30pm there’s a big fireworks show over Lake Grapevine, and if you go to the 5th floor of the Gaylord Texas parking garage there’s a great view and a Garage Party leading up to the show. The Garage Party begins at 7pm and is free to attend (parking fee at the resort applies). Click here for a list of other good fireworks viewing spots.

June 3 :: More summer kick-off fun at the Senter Park Rec Center’s Community Summer Fest. They’ve got food trucks, vendors, games, a bounce house, and snow cones from 10am to 1pm. Free admission!

June 3 :: Uptown Family Fest at West Village is today from 10am to 1pm. Face painting, stilt walkers, balloon artists, you know the drill. Free!

June 3 :: The 4th annual Voly in the Park is a family-friendly festival all about giving back and getting involved. From 12-4pm at Klyde Warren Park, you can find out about volunteer opportunities for the whole family from 65 different non-profits, and you can even do some hands-on volunteering projects at the festival if you’d like. Love this.

June 4 :: DMA Family Days means free admission to the special exhibits plus music and hands-on art experiences in the atrium from 11am to 5pm. Check the link for some “know before you go” info.

June 5 :: Bookmarks at Northpark mall has Baby Basics Storytime for babies aged 0-18 months today. Two different times for ya – 10:30 or 12:30, so hopefully one of those will work with your nap situation. They do Baby Basics Storytime frequently, so check the schedule for other dates!

June 7, 14, 21, 28 :: Every Wednesday you’ve got Barnyard Buddies at Dallas Heritage Village a.k.a. Old City Park. Stories and crafts for kids ages 4-12 at 11am. This month is all Eric Carle, beginning with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Tickets are $5, and the first accompanying adult is free.

June 6 :: At the Preston Royal Dallas Public Library the Dallas Fire Department is doing a Fire Engine Show and Tell today at 2pm. Side note, if you’ve not used the Dallas Public Library events search, you totally should. It’s the easiest way to find storytimes and whatnot, and you can filter by location, event type, age group, date and/or keyword. It’s good.

June 10 :: Discovery Days: Humanity at the Perot Museum explores what it is to be human. Physically, not, like, existentially. From 10am to 4pm learn about nutrition, muscles and bones, and being active. See the link for a total breakdown of all the different activities and projects offered. Free with admission (members get in an hour early!).

June 10 :: There’s a Dragon Boat Festival at Joe Pool Lake/Lloyd Park in Grand Prairie today from 9am to about 4pm. Bring your folding chairs and blankets to watch the races and enjoy a BBQ cook-off. $10 per car to get into the park.

June 17 :: Texas Discovery Gardens presents Fangs! A Family Festival of Herpetological Proportions. Herpetology – the branch of zoology concerned with the study of amphibians and reptiles, as we all know, naturally. This event is from 10am to 3pm and focuses on native Texas snakes and reptiles. Included with admission!

June 19 :: The City of Dallas will hold it’s annual Juneteenth Festival at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center from 2-7 pm. This commemorative family event features live music, bounce houses, a petting zoo, food, and lots of free children’s activities.

June 23-25 :: The Dallas Children’s Theater presents Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale, based on the Caldecott-winning book of the same name. Recommended for ages 5 and up, this show celebrates goodness, generosity, and love with a Zimbabwe-based Cinderella story. Several showtimes to choose from over the weekend, starting at $17.

June 24 :: Our beloved Dirk Nowitzki is bringing back his annual celebrity charity baseball game to Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. Dirk’s 2017 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game has celebrity athletes (and Chase Crawford) battling it out on the field + family fun outside the ballpark and a fireworks finale. Tickets starting at $9.
