Dallas Tacos: 101

If you haven’t noticed, Taco shops have recently popped up everywhere in Dallas! That is great news for me since I could eat Mexican food every day of the week. My family and I have tried a few of the new taco places, so I thought I’d share with you our experiences at each.

Torchy’s Tacos {Northwest Corner of Preston and Forest} This one is definitely our favorite so far. What started out as a food truck in Austin now has 10 locations in Austin, Dallas, and Houston combined. Favorites: Green Chile queso {a must!!}, Trailer Park- trashy style,The Ranch Hand, and the Baja Shrimp. For the Kids: Their kid-friendly options can’t be beat. There are crayons and menus to color and you can get a burrito or quesadilla for $2! The place is crowded but the food comes out fast so you can usually find someone who is leaving and grab a table. If you haven’t been, try Torchy’s soon!

Digg’s Taco Shop {on Hillcrest across from SMU} We really loved Digg’s! The atmosphere is young and trendy. The menu seems light and fresh. Favorites: Chips and Guacamole, the Burrito Bowl with their Pork Carnitas or a Shrimp Taco Combo.   For the Kids: They have a kids menu with quesadillas, nachos, and burritos ranging from $3-$5. This was a fun place to try and we will definitely be back!

Velvet Taco {N. Henderson and Central} Velvet Taco was amazing. We went for a date night recently and it lived up to all the hype we had heard from friends. Favorites: Side of Rotisserie Corn {we ate it for an appetizer}, a #3 Buffalo chicken, and a #8 Pulled pork. And their margaritas were fab. For the Kids:  I’m not sure how kid-friendly this one is…there were no kids there under the age of 5, but we were there on a Friday night at 8pm. I didn’t see any high chairs and they only have bar-height tables, so I’m thinking this is probably more of a date night place. If you’ve been with kids, let us know!

Other Taco Shops we’ve tried {that deserve Honorable Mention}- Yucatan Taco Stand and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.

And, we still have a long line of taco places to try. Next up on the list: The Rusty Taco, Good 2 Go Taco, and Fuel City Tacos.

Whew! That’s a lot of tacos! Does your family have a favorite taco place in Dallas? We’d love to hear!

  1. This post speaks right to my heart! I love taco places!! You need to get to Good 2 Go for breakfast tacos ASAP! It gets verrrrry crowded, so it might be tough with kiddos, unless it’s very early. And Rusty Taco is also great, and very kid friendly. The patio is great to hang out on when it’s nice out. And the staff is super friendly!

  2. I could definitely eat mexican food 7 days a week, too!!  Love this list!  I will need to try them.  My husband’s best friend has always sworn that Fuel City Tacos were the best in Dallas.  I have yet to try them.
