It’s a Multi-generational Experience with Long Cove at Cedar Creek Lake

My husband and I are blessed. Really blessed. We’ve come to realize that we’re in a small minority group that lives close to not just one set of grandparents, but two. My husband and I met in high school, and although moved away from home for college, both came back to Richardson after graduation and got married. There is some separation…both set of our parents live closer to the Garland side of town while we can legally claim Dallas status with Richardson schools. We live the phrase “it takes a village” and our kids will be fortunate to grow up knowing what it’s like to always be surrounded by family.

There is just one small problem with being so close to both sides of our families…finding unique ways to spend time with them separately. We try to find different ways of spending time with both his family and mine and like most families, we still “split” the holidays. But it can be a little awkward knowing the other side of the family is celebrating Thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter just a half mile away.

My hubby and I have frequently thought about ways to make these situations less “odd”, and over the years have had many joint-family get togethers during the holidays; however, as our extended family tree continues to grow in different directions, combining two families in one home will become extremely difficult. (My parents and in-laws still both live in the homes we grew up in — under 1900 square feet each with dining room tables maxed out at 8 seats).

How awesome would it be to have a destination where we could all go to celebrate birthdays or the holidays without feeling cramped? Or even better a destination where we could invite one side or the other for a special time away and still have plenty for everyone to do no matter what the ages — a place we could ALL vacationWe can only hope that a home in Long Cove on Cedar Creek Lake will be in our future!

Where is Long Cove?

One hour southeast of Downtown Dallas (or an hour and a half from the Frisco, McKinney, & Allen areas), you’ll find Texas’s fourth largest lake near the cities of Mabank and Gun Barrel City. Cedar Creek Lake is home to over 320 miles of shoreline, and Long Cove sits on 1,200 acres (or 6.5 miles) of that shoreline.

Even if your family doesn’t live within the Dallas metroplex, Long Cove is just a short drive away for those who might have to travel — less than 2 hours from Waco, 3.5 hours from Houston, and 1 hour from Tyler.
