Mommy is Taking a Sick Day

0

I woke up this morning with the raging headache I fell asleep with — so I called in sick, rolled over and went back to sleep for another 2 hours.  A sick body needs rest.

When I finally decided to get out of bed, I only did so to take some medicine and curl on the couch with some tea.  My head was pounding so badly that I just needed to lay down and not move.

I watched the news for a while and then some HGTV.  Then I got up to eat some toast.  I tried to clean a bit, but my head was pounding so hard that my teeth hurt.  My TEETH.  So I lay back down and feel asleep.

After sleeping I realize my teeth probably shouldn’t be hurting.  I need to go to the Dr.  So I schedule an appointment at 4, then watch a movie on TV while resting until 3:30.

I drive to the Dr. office where they declare a raging (word added for dramatic effect) sinus infection, send an Rx to the pharmacy and send me home for more rest.

I go home to rest and my adoring husband picks up the Rx on his way home.  He brings me medicine and I lay on the couch afraid to move my head until the meds kick in.  I get a full nights sleep and wake up finally feeling like I want to live again.

HAHAHA!!  Oh how I wish!

I’m a mom — here’s how my ‘sick day’ REALLY went.

sick

My lovely toddler wakes me up bright and early by pulling my hair and yelling “dada”.  I immediately feel the raging headache I went to bed with, but the kids are up and ready to eat and play.

After changing a diaper,  I make some eggs and toast that nobody eats because why would they eat the food I make for them?  My head hurts too much to fight them so I clean the kitchen instead.

I pause to take some medicine (finally), anything and everything in my medicine cabinet.  My husband is out of town so I do not have time to be sick today.

Off we go to the park for a playdate.  I bring extra tissue and patiently wait for the decongestant to kick in.  It never does, I think it was expired.  I notice my teeth hurt.  Actually, they’ve been hurting since yesterday – but who has time to notice these things!

After lunch with friends we head home for nap time.  Since my oldest stopped napping at 3, I get to build Legos while feeling like my eyes are going to pop out of my head.

The toddler wakes up from her nap and I finally realize – my TEETH are hurting so bad and that is not okay.  So I call the Dr. and debate if the hassle to take the kids with me is even worth going today.  I decide I can’t take another day of this.

So I load up two kids in the car, unload two kids into a stroller and fight the double doors to get in the Dr. office 10 minutes early.  35 minutes later they call me back.  After one poopy diaper and my kids running circles around the waiting room.  Why’d I bother with that stupid stroller?

I get checked out by the Dr. while standing in front of the exam room door so my toddler won’t escape.  She’s screaming.  So is my head.

The Dr. declares raging sinus infection (it has to be raging right, otherwise why are my TEETH hurting), calls in the Rx and sends us on our way to fight those double doors in the useless stroller again.  But now I have to kill time before the Rx will be ready.  Foolishly I go to Target where I don’t buy anything for the kids and the crying commences.  It’s mostly me.

Rx is finally ready!

At home I decide to give up.  TV is on and it’s frozen corn dogs for dinner.  ‘Please let this medicine kick in soon’ I think as my toddler covers herself and the couch in katsup.

Somehow we survive the night and the kids get to bed in a blur of headache and books and mismatched pajamas.  I fall asleep with them desperately hoping I wake up feeling better.

Sick days are not what they used to be!
