Naps: a new trend for 2015

1

I was supposed to write this post earlier today, but instead I took a nap. It was going to be a post about setting intentions for the new year or something. When I thought about it some more, I thought: Why don’t we just resolve to take more naps in 2015? That sounds perfect.

So behold, all the reasons that Naps should be every moms 2015 New Year’s Resolution:

Naps are not just for kids :: The kids are the ones who actually stayed up all night. They didn’t sleep enough, so now they need a nap. What about me?! I was up the same times. I need a nap too!

Saving time :: I read somewhere that a 20-minute nap can make you feel as refreshed as a whole hour of sleep. Or that a 90-minute nap is as good as several hours of sleep. I don’t know for sure, I fell asleep when I was reading the article.

Naps are cheaper than coffee :: I just saved myself $4 by falling asleep on the couch! Woo hoo!

If I napped instead of drinking coffee, I also saved some calories :: We shall call it the “Nap Diet.”

1343181337622_1569278I need to recharge my brain :: Brain can’t stop running in all directions? Too much to do? A rested brain is a more efficient brain. When you’re asleep, your brain is resting. Therefore, naps recharge your brain. I am sure there have been studies to verify this.

Napping can be trendy :: If you would like to make your nap trendy and stylish, purchase your napping blankets/wraps/Snuggies in one of the 2015 Pantone Color Trend colors. Fancy.

Dress for it :: Yoga pants? Wrinkled clothing? Haven’t fixed your hair? Chances are good that you might already be wearing the perfect napping clothes. It’s like this nap was preordained!

Lead by example :: If your children have trouble sleeping like mine do, try falling asleep on the floor in their room while they are supposed to be napping. They will either wake you up abruptly by jumping upon you from a great height, or they might just fall asleep out of sheer boredom. 50% chance of success.

There’s nothing on TV :: If you nap in the very early afternoon, there is nothing good on (live) TV. Unless you’re a soap opera fan, live TV is just sound at this point. Let that sound lull you to sleep, my friend. You aren’t missing anything.

You’ll have so much more energy! :: OK, this one isn’t actually true. Your kids are going to wake up 110% recharged and READY TO GO. You will have recharged about 25%. This is because our batteries just don’t hold a charge as well as we get older. But still, it’s better than nothing, right?

There are many other reasons that napping is fantastic, but if I keep typing this post I will miss my chance to nap while my kids are napping.

Happy napping in 2015!
