Nursery Tour : A Modern Twist for Twins

2

Since 2006, Stacie & Derek have been capturing the heart of newlywed couples and growing families through her photography business, Stacie Tatum Photography. This year, she finds herself closer to her subjects than ever before and capturing her own memories instead of someone else’s.

Starting with some classic inspiration, and utilizing a small space, Derek & Stacie finished up their modern nursery just weeks before the arrival of their twin girls, and took some photographs to last a lifetime.

Check out these amazing Nursery Tour photos and all the pink & gray details! Enjoy!

1. What was your inspiration for this room?

We had a really hard time deciding what to do. We wanted the nursery to be girly without being pastel or frilly, and we didn’t really want to do any kind of theme. We wanted a bold color. We finally found a picture of a gray, white, and pink nursery with trees on the wall and really liked it; although it was more pastel than ours.

I also felt the trees loosely tied in with the Hundred Acre Woods from Classic Pooh that I wanted to find a way to subtly incorporate.

2. What did you do first to the room? Where did you start?

Since the trees were the main design element, we started with the walls.  First, we found the tree decals. Then, we picked the paint color and decided which shade of pink to use for the birds.

3. What is one thing you are most proud of in this room?

My husband would say he trees because he spent about 8 hours putting them up, but I think I’m probably just most proud of the way it all came together and the way we saw a photo of a room we liked and made it completely our own. Usually when I put a room together, it doesn’t turn out the way I wanted, but it turned out better than I expected and I was completely happy with it!

4. What was one of the biggest challenges you faced while decorating?

Definitely trying to figure out how to accommodate two babies in a fairly small room! There was really only one way the cribs would fit and still leave any floor space, so we had to work around that.

5. Were you working with a budget when designing the room?

We didn’t have a set number, but tried to do everything for as little as we could; especially considering we had to buy 2 cribs. Twice the bedding and twice the amount of lots of other baby stuff!

A friend made all of the bedding and curtains and we kept furniture costs really low.

Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.

  1. I’m trying to do this for my nursery. Where did you get your birch trees – mine say do not use on textured walls. Thanks for your help.
