SmartCal :: Helping Balance Work, School, and Life {A Sponsored Giveaway}

Once upon a time, in a town not far away at all, lived a busy mom. She thought her life was already pretty full and difficult to schedule with four children, two part-time jobs, sports, and an active social life. Then, her oldest child attended the local elementary school. That’s when her calendar started blinking in and out and flashing the word “TILT.”

So, she did what any responsible and organized mom would try to do. She researched the school district’s academic calendar online. After an hour of tediously combing through the months and trying to discern whether or not the “teacher inservice day” meant her child had a full or a half day off, she gave up. Surely she’d figure it out as she went along…

Yes, okay, I’ll confess. This mom was me. When my oldest entered school, I had no idea how messed up our lives could be by the rigors of the academic calendar. Early release dates, school holidays, snow make-up days, school programs…they were all looming out there but I had no efficient way of transferring them to the calendars I use on my ipad and iphone.

But, today, I learned about a phenomenal new calendar device called “Smartcal.”

It is so seriously easy to use it made me cry just a little that I didn’t have it last year when my children were in public school. All you have to do is download it and, Presto!, the school calendar is in your calendar. It’s that simple. No more confusion. No more tedious searching for when Thanksgiving break is. It’s all in there for you to access immediately.

SmartCal CalendarSee the SmartCal people understand about us moms. In fact, they fully get the fact that most moms (55% according to a 2012 survey and research by TheLadders) are overwhelmed by the struggle for work-life balance. And, if you are the “Hurry Up!” Mom, you aren’t alone either. In fact, 40% of working moms with children under 18 said they always feel rushed, according to a Pew Research Center survey

The SmartCal people wanted to help moms manage their children’s activities and academic life without having to use a new program for organization. I’ll be honest, I’ve tried these other calendar programs that are allegedly designed to help me coordinate our family schedules and I always give up on them after a week. It’s just too much trouble to get all the information in there and then log in and share it. Using the calendar already built into my Apple devices is so much simpler for me.

So, I have a great appreciation for SmartCal. They have collected the academic calendars of most of the school districts in our area as well as some of the major colleges and universities. This is a must have resource for the busy mom who has a student in any level of study. It’s a new digital calendar solution that works along with the calendar you already use be it: Apple, Android, Outlook, Google Calendar, etc…
