Soothe Your Children and Your Soul with a New Lullabies Album

Sleep.

Peaceful. Beautiful. Soothing.

Sleep.

Ahhhh…That silence is a beautiful sound. Especially to us moms.

But, today I listened to something equally as beautiful that just may play a key role in helping sleep come to your house.  I had the opportunity to preview a brand new lullaby album by a band called Page CXVI.

I know what you are thinking…lullabies?  Really? I understand.  I personally think whoever came up with that “Rock-a-Bye Baby” song was kind of disturbed (“When the bow breaks, the cradle will fall?” really? I’m singing this to my child?)

Well, never fear. These aren’t your traditional lullabies.  These are classic hymns, re-interpreted and recorded in a way that is not only beautiful but also quite soothing…for your children and for your soul.

The three-person band that is Page CXVI (a cryptic name that references a page in C.S. Lewis’ book The Magician’s Nephew) started with an idea of making hymns accessible and known again.   From that original concept, sprouted another: recording some of the more restful hymns as lullabies so the richness of the music could be shared by both children and adults.

The Lullabies album features songs that most everyone is familiar with such as “Jesus Loves Me” and “Peace Like a River.” But, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the creativity and quality of even these two classics.  This CD is a far cry from the stale, sing-songy, versions of these traditional tunes that you may be used to.  Each and every hymn on this album has a uniqueness and beauty to it that you’ll enjoy listening to it even if your children are nowhere in sight!

Other songs on the Lullabies album include: “Blessed Jesus,” “The Lord’s Prayer,” “Breathe on Me, Breath of God,” “Nearer, Still Nearer,” and “Near to the Heart of God.”

The album will be released on November 13 of this year.  But, if you just can’t wait there are a few ways you can get a sneak preview and a free download!  The band is giving away 2 songs from the Lullabies album in exchange for tweets and Facebook likes, so if you visit the band Page CXVI’s page here you can cash in on these freebies!

If you are interested in checking out other songs by this really cool band, click here to Page CXVI visit their share page .  Or, just go see them when they play here in Dallas next week!  The band is travelling with artist Derek Webb and playing at the Prophet Bar in Deep Ellum on Thursday, September 27th.  Find a babysitter and check them out. I know you’ll be glad you did.
