Take Kids on a Safari of Art & Activities at the New ZimSculpt Exhibit

0

Although I’m a road trip travel buff, I’ve longed to take my kids abroad on an exciting African safari.  The kind where you get to soak up the culture and customs among diverse wildlife and dramatic landscapes.

Now we can do just that right on the shores of White Rock Lake when the new ZimSculpt exhibit debuts at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden April 15 to July 31.

Best of all, we won’t even need a passport. We’ll just rev up the minivan and head over to the garden to cross the virtual border into the enchantment of southern Africa.

ZimSculpt, is a world-renowned display of modern Zimbabwean stone sculptures.  Its visit to Big D marks the first-time ever that the exhibit will tour in the southern U.S., which gives you and your family an awesome opportunity to check it out.

Known as Shona sculpture, these contemporary pieces are carved from various types of serpentine and semi-precious stone, often weighing tons, and can be as large as seven feet tall.

If you saw the amazing Chihuly exhibit, ZimSculpt is displayed in a similar fashion.

You’ll discover more than 100 unique pieces of Zimbabwean contemporary art as you and your kiddos leisurely stroll through the garden.  There are wonderful surprises and scenes of artistic splendor everywhere you turn.

Zulu Queen by Tafadzwa Tandi is featured in the ZimSculpt exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum.

In addition to the awe-inspiring sculptures, children of all ages will have a blast discovering an array of ZimSculpt-related activities and events throughout the summer season.

I'm a North Dallas wife and mother of two slightly over-scheduled teen girls and a happily overweight golden retriever. Living between the pulse of the city and tranquility of the burbs makes it easy to take weekly jaunts throughout the community in search of an interesting story lead, or just a good cup of coffee. Although I grew up in Oklahoma City, I've called Texas home for nearly 20 years. I guess that means I have dual citizenship on both sides of the Red River. When I'm not carpooling, I spend most of my time assisting a variety of nonprofits, schools and civic organizations in marketing and public relations throughout North Texas. My family and I recently returned from an epic 4,000-mile road trip, which is like driving further than Dallas to Honolulu. The experienced inspired me to write about building intentional family moments through the wonders of travel around town and across the U.S. in my blog, Mommy's Minivan Monologues I'm delighted to join Dallas Moms Blog and I'm excited to have you join me as I continue to discover the DFW area and share more tales from the road.
