When was the last time you touched a real live snake? It’s probably been a minute. As someone who pet a snake for the first time in ages this very week, I can vouch for the experience. Such a cool texture, and so much smoother than expected, even though I did expect smooth. Their sinuous movements? Fascinating. Am I a closet Slytherin?? I thought I was Ravenclaw, but this snake situation has got me thinking.

Obviously, my next logical step is to get to Texas Discovery Gardens for the 3rd annual Fangs! Family Festival, a celebration of herpetological proportions. For those of you not in “the biz,” herpetology is the study of amphibians and reptiles. The Fangs! Festival will give us an up-close look at all sorts of native Texas snakes and reptiles in the new Snakes of Texas exhibit.

Fangs Festival Texas Discovery GardensThe Fangs! Festival is Saturday, June 17 from 10 am to 3 pm.

This is an indoor event, so we get blessed A/C.  They’ll have educational booths, craft activities, snake displays and live snake and turtle encounters, plus bee and insect exhibits in the Natural Learning Center.

*BONUS IDEAS FOR A FAMILY DAY OUT* Bring a picnic lunch and hang out in the beautiful organic gardens (7.5 acres!). Time your visit to coincide with the noon butterfly release talk inside the Butterfly House!
