Yes, Mother’s Day is THIS Sunday! And while most moms are reading this and dreaming of the lovely day their families have planned for them, some have already realized their loved ones might need a hint or two….or three that 1) Yes, Mother’s Day is actually this Sunday, and 2) It might be nice to feel a little spoiled on your special day. While it’s obvious that a typical Dallas Brunch is the easy way to go, you might be interested to know that there’s some other unique (and family-friendly) events happening around town that cater to us Moms.
We’ve found 5 Mother’s Day activities that might be perfect for your special day — or a great gift idea for your own mother or mother-in-law in your life!
Unique Ways to Celebrate Mom this Mother’s Day:
Does “mom” enjoy Dallas history or need a sophisticated break from little ones? Reserve tickets for the 42nd annual Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother’s Day Home Tour.
Guests will be able to travel between the six early 20th century historic homes in air-conditioned mini coaches staffed with a volunteer tour guide or take a slow horse-drawn carriage down Swiss Avenue.
Nearby Savage Park will be a resting place stocked with food and beverages and will have live entertainment going throughout the whole weekend. In addition, The Aldredge House will feature an informative Speakers’ Series on gardening, researching historical houses, and more!
Tickets for the Home Tour are $20 in advance or $25 the weekend of the event and can be purchased online. Children 12 and under are free! If you’d like to participate in the Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch on Sunday, call for reservations: 214-564-7348.
Bring Your Own Dinner Cruise on Lake Ray Hubbard or Lake Lewisville
Give Mom a memory to remember with a dinner cruise in Dallas! Both Lake Ray Hubbard and Lake Lewisville offer public cruises on the lakes that allow you to bring your own picnic food and beverages (wine, champagne, or beer).
On Lake Ray Hubbard (near Rowlett/Rockwall), Sail with Scott uses a 40′ wooden sailing catamaran for up to 49 guests. ($30/person). The 5pm cruise is perfect for all ages and children can take turn steering the boat under sail. “Harbor Lights”, a 57′ A/C Power Party Boat for up to 98 guests, offers a 5pm, 7pm, or 9pm cruise($25/person). Reservations are HIGHLY recommended.
On Lake Lewisville, BidDCats Catamaran is offering a Mother’s Day Brunch or Dinner Cruise catered by Blue Mesa Grill. Brunch includes an omelet station, pancakes, and other breakfast items and Dinner includes Beef or Chicken Fajitas; both with unlimited nonalcoholic beverages and bottled and BYOB. Adults ($59), children ages 8-12 ($30), and children 7 & under ($5) are invited! Boat leaves at 11:30am sharp and 5:00pm sharp. Reservations are Required! Be aware: they must meet the minimum of 15 people to sale or you’ll receive a full refund.
Texas Discovery Gardens Mother’s Day Concert & Butterfly Release
If you’re looking for an activity that the whole family will enjoy, head down to Fair Park for the 4th annual Mother’s Day concert with The Women’s Chorus of Dallas!
From 2-4pm, enjoy an hour long performance followed by a live butterfly release. It’s recommended that tickets be purchased in advance as they always sell out! Tickets for the concert can be purchased on The Women’s Chorus of Dallas website.
If you’d like for Mom to release her own butterfly, a “Butterfly Release Gift Package” can be purchased on TexasDiscoveryGardens.org for $25 – -includes the ability to release a butterfly in the Conservatory, a butterfly plant and goodies to take home!
Roman Holiday at iPic Theaters
Treat mom to a special showing of Roman Holiday starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn with iPic Theaters in The Shops at Fairview (near Allen). Showtimes start at 11am and end at 10:40pm.
Not a classical movie fan? Bring mom to any movie at iPic on Mother’s Day and they’ll receive a rose! Make sure to purchase seats well in advance as theaters are smaller and they’re all reserved seating.
A Day in Bishop Arts
This Mother’s Day outing requires little reservation or planning, but can make for a great day (if the weather cooperates)!
Grab mom and make her feel spoiled by dining at one of the many restaurants in Bishop Arts (and accommodates for all budget levels):

Cloud Nine Cafe at Reunion Tower ($)
What could be better than brunch that will entertain! Cloud Nine Café in the GEO-Deck of Reunion Tower will serve a special menu including exclusive items such as the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Salad and themed cookies and cupcakes, Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10. The cafe will have extended hours on Sunday, May 10 with hot food served until 6 PM and the bar open until 7 PM. To top it off, every mom will receive a free rose and family photo on Sunday, May 10!
Always delicious, but even better for Mother’s! Breadwinners will offer a special menu with features that include Roasted Tomatillo Chilaquiles and Nature Lovers Waffles — homemade granola baked inside and topped with strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries drizzled with vanilla yogurt! And if you pop in after 5pm, Mom will get a free dessert!
Blue Mesa Grill ($$)
Voted best brunch by Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News, and D Magazine, their Mexican-inspired Mother’s Day Brunch won’t disappoint at any metroplex location (Plano, Addison, Arlington, Dallas, or Fort Worth) as Mimosas and coffee are included! $19.95/person or $6.95/children 6-10 years old
This up-and-coming restaurant known for their “Family Feasts” will host a Mother’s Day brunch perfect for the whole family! Enjoy more traditional home-cooked flavors with a twist like Blueberry & Ricotta Cheese Pancakes, Broiled Raw Sugar Grapefruit, and Smoked Salmon & Collard Green Eggs Florentine
Mansion on Turtle Creek ($$$$)
Leave the kids at home because this special menu will want to be savored! The Mansion has been listed as the “best restaurant for fine dining” for over 30 years. Brunch includes Smoked Brisket Benedict, Steak & eggs, and Raisin Pecan French Toast. And you might just want to stick around for the special Mother’s Day Lunch/Dinner Menu ($125/person).
Pricey, but includes a gift!! Fearing’s (located in Uptown Dallas) offers a 3-course brunch with a Eucalyptus Shower Mist gift from The Ritz-Carlton Spa when you reserve a table over the phone. Brunch is $100/adult and $30/child (12 and under).
