Weekend Getaway: A Hidden Winery Close to Dallas

1

I love being a wife and a mom to two sweet girls, but sometimes mama needs a break! While I love my family dearly, I think it’s important to take a little time to recharge every so often. My friends and I have been wanting to go on a girls only trip for sometime, but now that we all have (at least) two children, it is hard to coordinate much time away! A few weekends ago we decided to go on an overnight getaway to Cedar Creek lake. A friend’s aunt generously opened up her home for us for the night and we enjoyed a lovely dinner, and more importantly, grown up conversation on the patio.

The next day we ventured to Tara Vineyard in Athens, TX. It is a somewhat hidden East Texas gem, and would you believe me if I told you its less than an hour and a half from Dallas? The estate is gorgeous and has a beautiful bed and breakfast nestled among the vineyard. We made our way over the hills and through the vineyard to the Cellar Door, where we would be partaking in wine tasting and lunch.

The wines were wonderful and the winemakers were incredibly knowledgeable. There were eight of us in the tasting and the winemakers were able to customize each of our samplings to our own individual tastes and preferences. While some of us gravitate towards a light and crisp white wine, others in the group like bold and robust reds. And each of us got to taste a little of what we love as well as something new.

After the wine tasting we were seated on a shaded patio for lunch. Let me tell you, the wine was good but the food was amazing. From salads to burgers – everything was delicious. And the winemakers made the perfect wine pairing suggestions.

On Friday and Saturday nights the Cellar Door offers live music. And we are all itching to go back, sit around one of the fire pits and listen to music while we enjoy some Tara wine.

After just one night away, wine tasting and a delicious meal, we all felt completely recharged and ready to get back to our families. (Please note, we made plans for designated drivers to get us all safely back to Dallas).

If you are looking for a fun getaway with friends, our whole group would be quick to suggest Tara Winery and Vineyard. It’s close enough to make a day trip out of it, or look on a website like vrbo.com for available lake house rentals in the area. After seeing the Inn on the property, I also think it would be a wonderful getaway for an anniversary or romantic weekend!

This post was not sponsored by Tara Winery, I just had so much fun there and wanted to share my experience!
