10 Mom Tips for a Spring Visit to the Dallas Zoo

1

Springtime is a great time to visit the Dallas Zoo. Their new Dino Safari runs through Labor Day, so be sure to bring your dinosaur-loving kiddos to experience more than 30 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs and loads of fun photo opportunities.

National Zoo Lover’s Day is April 8, and we are lucky to have such a nice zoo in our city. My children love visiting the Dallas Zoo; when my son was a toddler, we quickly realized it was most cost-effective to become zoo members.

10 Mom Tips for a Spring Visit to the Dallas Zoo

  1. Reserve your zoo tickets make a day of it. Spring weather is ideal for visiting the Dallas Zoo. It covers more than 100 acres, with thousands of animals and hundreds of species (not including fish), so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to surpass your step goal for the day.
  2. Enjoy a meal at Picnic Ridge, near the herpetarium, and follow it up with a ride on the T-Rex Express mini train. My children are older now but still love the train.Four children smile at the camera while sitting on a train ride at the Dallas Zoo
  3. Ride the carousel on the way out. My kids are big fans of riding the carousel at the main entrance. Tickets are inexpensive, and we always do this as a fun treat on our way out.
  4. Feed the animals. Over at the Giants of the Savanna exhibit, you can feed the giraffes. You can also feed Galapagos tortoises, then head over to feed birds at Birds Landing in the Children’s Zoo. How cool is that? 5. Enjoy a bite at the Serengeti Grill—keep your eyes on the windows in case a lion happens to stroll by.
  6. What better way to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 or World Environment Day on June 5 than with your family at the Dallas Zoo?
  7. World Penguin Day is April 25, so you’ll want to visit the penguins and watch their adorable waddling and graceful swimming.
  8. The Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo is so much fun. You may want to bring extra clothes, shoes, and socks, if your little ones will want to run through or sit in the stream. There’s a farmyard and a goat yard along with a play area.
  9. World Migratory Bird Day is May 14, and bird lovers can celebrate at the zoo’s interactive aviary where you can get up-close with nearly two dozen species of birds from around the globe.A mother and two children pose beside a window. A gorilla sits on the other side of the glass.
  10. We always come home with so many fun photos. I usually bring only my phone, but you’ll see lots of visitors with their DSLRs. National Nature Photography Day is June 15, and there is always plenty to photograph at the zoo.

There is so much more to enjoy at the Dallas Zoo this spring. Remember to plan ahead. For now, the Dallas Zoo requires all guests, including members, to reserve timed tickets and parking online before your visit.
