There’s no figure in children’s literature that says Christmas quite like the Grinch. From his green grin to his too-small heart, watching, reading and singing the story of the Grinch and the Whos of Whoville has been a holiday tradition for generations. Lucky for us Dallas folks, as part of AT&T Performing Art Center’s 2017-2018 Broadway Series, the smash-hit musical Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas will appear at the Winspear Opera house from December 5th – December 17th, 2017.

Dallas Moms Blog had a sneak peak of the performance on opening night, and we want to share all the fun details with you! Keep reading for 5 reasons why spending a night with the Grinch should be on your Christmas to-do list.

Reason #1: There’s a ton of stuff to do before the show even begins.
All throughout the lobby, there are fun activities for kids. They can make holiday cards for kids that will be spending the season at Children’s Hospital. They can take pictures with or Pin the Heart on the Grinch, and everyone can make a stop at the hot cocoa bar for a warm drink!

Reason #2: It’s the perfect first-time musical for little kids.
The show is just under 90 minutes long, which is perfect for your tiniest theatergoer. Also, it’s an easy-going production (but performed with show-stopping professionalism), and you get the feeling that the performers are open to improvisation here and there, especially when they ask for and encourage audience participation. Our mommy reviewer’s four-year-old son loved every minute of the show and didn’t want to leave when the curtain went down.

Reason #3: The set and costume design is Suess-tastical.
In true Dr. Suess-fashion, the set is a fantastically illustrated array of Whoville shops and homes, and even the Grinch’s mountaintop abode seems magical. It also snows (more than once!) during the show, and each character is dressed exactly how you’d imagine a Who to be dressed.

Reason #4: You’ll get to know everyone in Whoville.
The musical adds in new songs and scenes (don’t worry, classics tunes You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch and Welcome Christmas are still part of the show!) that give the classic tale a little more depth. You’ll listen to Max, the Grinch’s faithful companion, as he remembers that fateful Christmas. You’ll watch Cindy-Lou Who, Ma Who, and Pa Who make their way through the busy shops in Whoville. And, you’ll listen to the Grinch and Cindy-Lou have a heart-to-heart before he makes his way up the mountain to discover that Christmas has still come to Whoville, after all.

Reason #5: The Grinch will steal your heart.
Get ready to fall for the old green guy because as the Grinch, Phillip Bryan brings one of Dr. Suess’s most beloved characters to life in a knockout performance. He’s engaging, funny, and not a bit scary.

Show dates are December 5th – December 17th
