A Beautiful Escape to Wind Point Park

0

This is my summer of “staycations”, I am eight months pregnant so local getaways are what I have to look forward to until this baby arrives. Being from Northern California my favorite local getaway has always been Lake Tahoe. I love getting to the lake, being in nature and feeling away from it all. Clearly Lake Tahoe was not an option this summer. So my husband, our two kids and our close friends with their kids visited Wind Point Park. The park is located about 60 miles east of Dallas on Lake Tawakoni and it hit the spot!
Wind Point Park Dallas Moms BlogWind Point Park has something for everyone who enjoys being on a lake and taking in a beautiful nature setting. There was no chance I was going to sleep two nights in a tent at 8 months pregnant so we decided to rent a cabin for two nights. The cabin had a small kitchen, strong AC, three beds, and a full bathroom. Outside our cabin’s front door was a barbeque, fire pit, and picnic table. It was perfection!

IMG_0611There are numerous campsites, RV hook ups, tent shelters and 8 cabins. Rates can be found here and accommodations descriptions can be found here. The cabins fill up fast, so book ahead! Something I hope to do is get eight families together and rent all the cabins which are all located next to each other. We would just spend time relaxing, letting the kids play, eating s’mores and drinking wine basically just unplug! Below are some packing tips to keep in mind before going!IMG_6534

  1. Bring your kid’s bikes or scooters, there was so much space around the cabin to ride around, with no car traffic you can just let them do their thing!
  2. Bring a raft! There is a swimming entrance into Lake Tawakoni and in the summer he
at I would love to float in the lake- ALL DAY!
  3. If you like to fish, this is the place for you! A fantastic fishing pier, bring all your gear, you will not be disappointed
  4. Bring a blow up pool! We set up a plastic pool outside our cabin and the kids lived in it. There is a hose with every cabin, so it is easy to fill. We may have used it as a bath before bed too J
  5. Bring all your food. There is an oven, fridge and BBQ. You can make fantastic meals. Of course do not forget your smores materials!
  6. Bring sunscreen and bug spay. Although I must say, after two days of being outside non-stop I have NOT ONE mosquito bite.

IMG_9056I can not recommend this beautiful place enough! I was only there two nights and there is so much more to explore but from my cabin experience I can not wait to go again. In just over an hour my family escaped the city and fully unwound by the lake, eating smores and watching our kids explore nature and use their imaginations in fantastic new ways.
