“Every Kid starts out as a natural-born scientist, and then we beat it out of them.  A few trickle through the system with their wonder and enthusiasm for science intact.” — Carl Sagan

When I look back on my school years (way, way back… tear), science was always my most challenging subject.  I loved school and always strove for As an Bs, but I struggled hard for that B- in science.

Now that my kids are starting school, I get to see it all through fresh eyes.  One thing I was surprised by is their fascination and love of all things science!  Their favorite books and learning apps are the ones on how the body works and they are oddly obsessed with how food is digested and expelled from the body.  We bought a solar system kit for Miles when he was 5 and he built it all himself and then memorized the planets and their order from the sun, just because he was interested.  They love Sid the Science Kid and the Magic School Bus on Netflix and ask to watch both daily!

The pressure is on for me to do all I can to help develop and foster that love of science, engineering and creativity.

While searching for summer camps this year, I found Club SciKids Dallas and am blown away by what they have to offer!  There are not enough weeks for all the camps I want to put my kids in.

5 awesome camps for Pre-K to Kinder — including Jurassic, Little Engineer and Jr. Meteorologist.

11 camps for 1st to 3rd Grade — including Grossology (fun!), Beginner Minecraft Game Design, Stop Motion Explosion, Emergency Vet… (I’m having a hard time not listing them ALL as they ALL sound like something my kids would LOVE).

And 9 camps for 4th to 7th Grade — including CSI, Emergency Medicine, Master Minecraft Coder, RPG Game Maker.

All 25 options (conveniently listed out here) promise hands-on, interactive activities with experiments and projects they get to take home!  And all their lessons meet or exceed the National Science Standards.

Club SciKidz has 1 one location in Addison (Trinity Christian Academy) and 2 locations in Dallas (Good Shepherd Episcopal School and Highland Park Presbyterian Church) with camps starting the week of June 18th.

Club SciKidz Dallas LogoCamps will operate Monday – Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, but they also offer before/after care for a small additional fee.

When I asked my 7 year old which camp he was most interested in, his head almost exploded – he just can’t decide between Emergency Vet and Young Physician.  And I know he would have a blast making Stop Motion Animation, so I’m fairly sure we’ll be doing several camps this summer for both kids!
