There are no words to describe the newest show at Dallas Children’s Theater. In the style of mime and clowns, with a little Charlie Chaplin style thrown in for good measure.
Literally…there. are. no. words.
The latest offering from Dallas Children’s Theater is directed by former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey clown college director Dick Monday and stars DCT artist-in-residence Karl Schaeffer.
This one-man show—set in a small theater with cozy throw pillows—is a sensory wonder. With cheering and sympathy from the audience, it’s a physical-performance packed production: a perfect first-time theater experience for kids ages 3 and up.
Karl Schaeffer stars as the old man, set in his ways, and preparing to spend his birthday alone. To his surprise, and to the delight of the audience, a balloon decides to stop by and insists on being his friend––proving that even the most simple things in life can bring joy and companionship.
Be prepared for happiness, sadness, anger and fear. This adorable play runs the gamut of emotions and touches on each with tenderness even young children can grasp. With a charming, Paris-based apartment set-design, sweet music and the wonderful performance of Mr. Schaeffer, parents and kids alike will leave the show feeling as if they too, were befriended by a stubborn balloon (Our favorite part is when the old man just wants to eat his spaghetti, already!).
If you want to go, you’ll need to act quickly!
