When you have a baby, everyone tells you to “sleep when the baby sleeps.” Almost insultingly simple, isn’t it? Too bad it’s actually super hard to do. Mattress Firm is here to spread awareness of the importance of a good night’s sleep for new moms, and make it easier for you to actually get that good sleep.

Let’s start with the basics. Like, the literal foundation. The right mattress is key to getting your best sleep (as anyone who’s ever woken up at 2am on a deflated air mattress can tell you). Mattress Firm is committed to helping you find the bed you want for the sleep you deserve at an unbeatable price

Check out this interesting data on the sleep habits of new parents:

  • The average parent loses 1/3 of their nightly sleep after having a baby, decreasing from an average of 6 hours a night to just 4 hours.
  • Men seem to get a lucky break [omg, duh], as 67% of female respondents said their partner got more sleep in that first year.
  • Nearly half (48%) of all new parents say that loss of sleep is their number one challenge.
  • One in four parents would rather eat only baby food for an entire year if it meant their newborn’s sleep schedule would match theirs in the first year.

My sister-in-law (a first-time mom) texts me at least once a month to discuss the ins and outs of her baby’s latest sleep habits. It is so consuming for moms, which is part of what makes it hard for us to get a good sleep ourselves.

  • The average parent spends 74 minutes every day trying to get their baby to fall asleep, or 19 full days in the first year of infancy.
  • Parents were asked at what point they felt they had mastered being a parent and 41% stated it was when they were finally able to get their baby to sleep through the night. [!!]

Almost as simple as “sleep when the baby sleeps” is the fact that a comfy, cozy bed plays a major part in allowing you to get the rest you NEED. It’s important to set ourselves up as best we can to recharge, reset, and get ready for a new day. I know you see Mattress Firm stores everywhere when you’re out and about, but you probably can’t recall exactly where one is. Just click here for the location nearest you!

We prepare for having kids in so many ways. Maybe we should also consider preparing our bedrooms, not just for baby to have a restful sleep, but so we can have a restful sleep, too.

A new mattress is one of those purchases that has an immediate positive impact, AND you get your money’s worth since you can keep it for a long time. And you know what? As your children grow, your bed is going to feature prominently in family time. My kids are always on my bed. It just makes sense to have a great mattress underneath it all.

From diaper duty and feedings to late-night wakings and bedtime stories, there’s no doubt that we are working hard in the evenings. Mattress Firm is here to remind you to take a deep breath and remember to sleep harder.
