On Tuesday night, my husband and I had the pleasure of going to see Elf the Musical at Dallas Fair Park.

In the off chance you have not seen the adorable MOVIE (starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel) here is a brief overview:

“Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy a young orphan who is raised by elves unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy making abilities cause him to face the truth. Through a journey to New York City to find his father and true identity, Buddy is determined to win over his family and help the Big Apple remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make even the biggest Cotton-Headed-Ninny-Muggin embrace their inner ELF.”

The New York Times describes it as “Splashy, Peppy, Sugar-Sprinkled Holiday Entertainment!” I couldn’t agree more. My husband and I made it a date night and it really got us into the holiday spirit!  The songs were catchy and fun.  The talent and choreography were extraordinary and we both laughed out loud! There is definitely some adult humor worked in there but it should go right over your kid’s heads! The first half went from 7:30 – 9:00pm and it all wrapped up by 10PM.  If you have young kiddos, I would suggest going to one of the 1:30pm showtimes they offer on Saturdays and Sundays.

BONUS: Music Hall at Fair Park offers wine and other beverages, Chick-fil-A (on the 3rd floor) and Starbucks!  (This was news to me, but I am no a seasoned Music Hall gal so maybe it has always been like this!)

As far as how appropriate it is for young children… This was hard for me to gauge because every family is different, but as a rule of thumb if you felt comfortable with your child watching the movie ELF, they should be just fine watching the musical.  There are a couple of language moments and some adult humor. Their website suggests ages 8 and up! However, I must say it is EXTREMELY entertaining for adults so definitely consider making it a date night with your better half.  I guarantee you will walk out with a big grin on your face!
