Serious Fun with The Little Gym Sports Skills!

My first interaction with The Little Gym quickly set the tone:

Sports skills class begins this Thursday!
Text back “Serious Fun” to confirm!

The Little Gym’s Sports Skills introduces children to a different sport every few weeks through drills, games, and some incredibly enthusiastic instructors … “Serious Fun” it has been!

The Little Gym Sports Skills 3As many of you know, my son has always preferred animals and encyclopedias to sports. He has never been the most coordinated child and he’d rather strike up a conversation about the African wildebeest migration than throw a ball. As a former DI athlete, I’ve always tried to find ways to interest him in sports. I want him to benefit from organized sports in the ways that I did growing up: work ethic, teamwork, fitness, sportsmanship and most importantly, fun.

Little Gym’s Sport Skills class is a great introduction to sports for those not ready for organized teams, but ready to learn the basics of sports and have fun!! Every few weeks the children are introduced to a new sport: soccer, football, hockey, golf, basketball and baseball. Through drills and games they teach the rules and strategies of these team sports, while also developing balance, hand eye coordination, and improving their fitness. The class ranges in age from 3-6 but is split into two sessions: Mini Jacks ages 3-4 and Cracker Jacks ages 4-6.

The instructor’s enthusiasm and positive vibe are what make this class so special. While coaches of organized sports teams tend to introduce criticism at a certain point, The Little Gym instructors are incredibly positive of every child’s skill level. My son leaves the class thinking he is the best soccer player in the world–a fantastic boost to his self-confidence. He’s has also retained all of the rules of the game from the high energy exercises; he frequently reminds me to not use my hands with the soccer ball!

The Little Gym class has boosted my son’s interest in playing sports at home, and introduced him to many new sports. He now loves to practice and show off his newly learned skills. And I am happy to report that I notice his balance improving as well as his coordination. I am excited that he can now decide which sports he likes most and to see what is to come next!
