Mothers' Milk Bank of North Texas

Did you know that DFW is home to one of the top dispensing nonprofit milk banks in North America? Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas (MMBNT) has safely connected generous mothers to fragile babies for more than 14 years. MMBNT has grown so much, the organization recently moved into a brand-new facility. Although their new, spacious home is located in Southwest Fort Worth, their reach is wide. MMBNT works with NICUs and outpatient facilities all across North Texas and beyond, including states like Arkansas that do not have their own milk banks.

Approximately 380,000 babies are born prematurely in the United States each year. These babies are behind in their growth and development, putting them at risk for significant complications. For these fragile infants, breastmilk can make a world of difference. Its nutrients and immunological properties can protect against conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a severe intestinal infection.

Mothers of premature infants often struggle to produce adequate breastmilk due to stress, their own medical conditions, or a number of other factors. Donor human milk ensures that their babies receive optimal nutrition and protection, a welcome gift during this stressful time.

Each year, more hospitals provide donor breastmilk to the babies in their NICUs. In an effort to match this growing demand, Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas has moved to a new space that has tripled the capacity and space of the previous facility, enabling it to pasteurize and store more donor milk.

What MMBNT needs now is YOU. If you’re one of those lucky moms who produce breastmilk in excess of your own baby’s needs, please consider becoming a much-needed donor instead of throwing it away! If you choose to donate to Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas, you can be certain that your donations will benefit the most vulnerable infants in DFW and surrounding areas. MMBNT does not financially profit from donor milk, and the milk is often life-saving for infants recovering from serious complications or surgeries.

Becoming a milk donor is easy. All it requires is:

  • A short phone interview with a donor coordinator
  • Completion of a medical history questionnaire
  • Blood testing at a lab located near the donor (at no cost for the donor)

MMBNT has several convenient drop-off locations in Dallas:
