There’s nothing better than saving money and impacting your community! Find out more on how 4Change Energy makes this possible in the sponsored post below.

When I became a stay-at-home mom, my new role was no longer to earn an income but do my part to protect the income we had coming in. I did everything I could think of to save the few dollars we had coming in. We (a.k.a. my husband) created a very detailed spreadsheet to keep a closer track on our finances, to see where our spending was going, and the areas we could start improving.

I wish I could say I did an incredible job of being the financial saver in the family, but that’s far from the truth. While I learned all the strategies behind couponing, it burned me out after a few months. I began cooking more at home, but found my only motivation for cooking was trying new recipes which weren’t always the cheapest on our budget. Thankfully, some spending was easily done away with– like my clothing budget. As most moms discover, finding the time to go shopping for myself became scarcer and scarcer which forced our budget into the black. It also only took a year to realize that Target was a trap and we could no longer go to “wander” as a way to get out of the house.

Even though I would say I’ve only been moderately successful at saving money, there is one improvement I made in our home that has saved us hundreds (and possibly thousands in the future).

A little less than a year ago, my husband and I went through and calculated our energy spending. Our home was littered with incandescent bulbs and poorly sealed doors. This in combination with a high energy rate was not good for our budget.

We went through and added up all the light bulbs in our home, calculated the cost of those bulbs being on and were shocked! On average, we were spending well over $330 a year just by having our lights turned on; not including major appliances, electronics, or air conditioning. Over the last year, we’ve been slowly replacing our incandescent bulbs to LED’s, room by room. We’re now just a few small rooms and hallways shy of being completely turned over and we’re already starting to see a difference. Per our calculations, we’re expected to reduce our lighting down to just $30 a year!

But there’s even more we can do to keep saving . . .and that’s make some changes to our energy provider.

It means shaving every cost, possible, so we can give you low prices, the service you need, and support our communities with a helping hand. You win and your neighbors win. Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
