Klyde Warren Park – Downtown Dallas’ Newest (and Best) Addition

2

Do you know how much energy a 2 year old boy and a 10 month old puppy have?  I’m not even sure metrics go up that high!  Now imagine all that energy wrapped up in a one room loft without a yard and… I’d like to welcome you to my life! There are so many things I love about living in a loft in downtown Dallas, but our lack of yard is not one of them. Thankfully, there are plenty of parks, activities, and attractions in downtown to help keep us busy (re: wear out the kiddo) and we have many of them within walking distance of us!

However, even with the new Belo Garden opening a few blocks from us (we’re still in love with those fountains, by the way) we’ve been looking forward to the new park over Woodall Rogers since they began working on it back in 2009! The new park promised lots of things over the years, and we’ve been putting up with construction on our way home for years now. But I’m thrilled to (finally) say that Klyde Warren Park is now open! And this is one amazing park you cannot miss!!

Prepare to be overwhelmed by the amount of awesome things this park has to offer!

In our two trips to the park we’ve seen:

Miles (2) and Izzy (11) both approve!
  • Several yummy food trucks
  • My Best Friend’s Park, the fenced in doggy park with water fountains, hills, grass and lots of friendly pups
  • Ping Pong Tables (between 6 AM and 11 PM you can rent out the balls, paddles, clubs and more from the volunteers to play!)
  • Putting Green (equipment for rent)
  • Foosball Tables (equipment for rent)
  • Badminton (equipment for rent)
  • Petanque, a French game similar to Bocce Ball (equipment for rent)
  • Croquet (equipment for rent)
  • Reading and Game Room – a beautiful corner of the park with tables and lots of shade dedicated to reading and playing games (books and magazines are available to borrow – provided by Dallas Public Library)
  • Children’s park that includes the perfect sized water feature, two separate play areas (one toddler size and one a little bigger), a gorgeous tree house, bathrooms (to open soon, but can you say genius?), fake grass and plenty of seating for the grownups!

This past Saturday we arrived just in time for Izzy to create her own building with the Dallas Center for Architecture. They provided a fun table with construction paper, crayons, blocks, tape and more – for kids to help create buildings for a city. The Center for Architecture and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science are both hosting activities for kids on the weekends. Check out the Things to Do section of their website for the schedule!

In addition to all of that, this park has even more to offer!  Stroller boot camp is Thursday mornings from 10 AM to 11 AM, they also have daily Yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi and a run club.  All for FREE!

There’s also live music during the day, Dallas skyline tours, a knitting circle (I cannot wait to go to that one!), free wi-fi, and a restaurant to open in 2013! And there’s so much more — I can’t even list it all!

Even if you don’t live in downtown this park is just begging for you to visit. Just hop on the DART and stop at either St. Paul or Arts District Pearl stops for a short walk to all the fun. Now that the weather is cooling down, it’s the perfect time for a visit!

Throw in a Trolley ride (nearest stop at St. Paul St. and Woodall Rogers across from the Dallas Museum of Art) and you have yourself a day packed so full of activities you’re sure to run out of energy before you get to do it all.

Be sure to “Like” them on Facebook to get updates and reminders on all the events they have. And be on the lookout for me — I’ll be the one chasing either a puppy or a 2 year old around… probably both!
