My 5 Favorite Items for the Newborn Stage

1

Whew! My baby girl is almost 3 months old! Not only is this a milestone for her, but also for our entire family. Why? Because there were a few weeks that our colicky baby was incredibly difficult- like stay awake 13 hours straight– difficult. So it is only fair for me to share a few items that helped make life a little easier for us during the first few months.

My 5 Favorite Items for the Newborn Phase:

1. Aiden and Anais Swaddle Blankets:

These soft, light-weight blankets are a “must have” item. They form such a great swaddle which was incredibly calming for my fussy child. I also use them to shade my daughter when she is in the stroller.

2. The Baby Shusher App: Woah. This i-phone app was a game changer for me. While the sound of a man repeatedly “shushing” may not seem soothing to me, it drastically cut down the time it took my baby to fall asleep.

3. Summer Bath Sponge: This inexpensive, yellow sponge doesn’t look like anything special, but trust me, it is. It provides a comfortable spot in the sink for baby to enjoy a relaxing bath. (I’ll be honest, baths weren’t relaxing for anyone until month 2.) Now that my tall girl has outgrown the sink, we use the sponge in her plastic tub. It not only provides her with comfort but also positions her at a good angle for hair washing.

4. Facial Cleansing Cloths: There were many times my little one would have a difficult time taking her bottle. This meant milk spilling down her neck and getting stuck in her little neck creases. If you are a mom, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you don’t clean it, it gets gross. I adore Mustela Facial Cleansing Cloths; they take care of the problem and also smell amazing!

5. Wine: No explanation needed.

Other fabulous items worth exploring:

The Itzeen This was my number one favorite product when I had my first baby. This hand-held device allows you to time feedings, naps, diaper changes, and anything else you may need.

The Shade by Imagine Baby While this is made to protect baby from the sun, I use it to protect my daughter from the rain. This contraption easily fits over the carseat and allows me to “make a run for it” when I am out in less-than-perfect weather.

What are some of your favorite items to use during the newborn phase?

  1. Sally got a ton of my fave items on her list!! Eden + Anais are a must, the mustela facial wipes are still a key item for my bag when out and about with my 3.5 year old, I LOVE the yellow sponge, my mom-in-law introduced me to it and yes, wine needs no explanation. Great list!!
