My House Is A Mess

14

Can we get real honest here? I hope so, and I really hope I’m not alone in this. My house is a mess. I mean, when you get down and look at the floors, behind lamps and plants, in the nooks of the kitchen, there is a level of cleanness that is just not there. Sure, it might look tidy if you come over, but that’s just because I threw everything in it’s place 5 minutes before you got there, even though I’ve learned that it’s okay to have a people over with a messy house.

I’m good at tidying up and generally keeping a neat house, but where I struggle, is the deep, nitty gritty cleaning that I just neglect to do. I can’t tell you the last time I cleaned the base boards, actually scrubbed the bath tub (that’s what scrubbing bubbles are for, right?), washed the windows, or a long list of other little corners and things that need to be cleaned. My problem is that when I get a good opportunity to clean, such as a weekend when my husband is home to distract the boys, the last thing I want to do is isolate myself in the house all day long making things sparkle. I would much rather be in the backyard with my family, actually enjoying the time we all get to be together.

So my question is, is it worth it to pay someone to clean my house? Instead of spending hours upon hours every week scrubbing, mopping, dusting, and wiping, is it worth it to dish out the cash to savor those hours spending quality time with my family? I’ve never used a cleaning service, so I’m not even familiar with the prices, but lately the thought of a cleaning service has become increasingly more tempting. With a toddler and newborn at home with me 24/7 (yep, I’m still sittin’ pretty on a Mother’s Day Out waitlist), daily cleaning is just not happening. I’m tired of constantly seeing the grime and feeling guilty. I need to either come up with a better system, or just bite the bullet and have a cleaning service do it. As I’ve been contemplating this, I’ve been checking out a few DFW cleaning services. These are just the top 3 that interested me:

EcoMaids of North Dallas– This green cleaning service sounds appealing to me as I don’t like a lot of toxins and strong chemicals lingering around my little ones.

Mod Maids – This local cleaning company prides itself on being luxurious and affordable. Two things that sounds really nice right now 🙂

Domestic Divas – Claiming to be personal, reliable, and high-quality, this local cleaning company has a great detailed list of services, which is way more than I ever clean!

If I end giving a cleaning service a try, I’ll be sure to let you mamas know. Maybe I’ll even get super vulnerable and post before and after photos, eek! But more importantly, I want to know how you all do it!

Do you use a cleaning service? Is there one you recommend? If you don’t, how do you find the time (and effort) to keep your house clean?

  1. we had a woman come clean the week we went to the hospital to have our first…and haven’t looked back since! she comes every 2 weeks and she is my sanity saver…I’m definitely spoiled to have her but I love it! she does all the deep cleaning so during the weeks I just need to focus on keeping the house picked up and vacuumed (with 2 dogs, the vacuuming is a full time job!). in my opinion with little kids (and dogs) it’s worth every penny!

    • Good to know! That’s true, I didn’t factor in our dog-who sheds a ton, especially when it’s warm! I’m worried about how expensive it will be, but it is sounding like it will indeed be worth every penny!

      • I can give you our lady’s name and number if you want it! She’s great…even Tanner gets excited when she comes! 🙂

  2. A service will be more expensive. Just hire a cleaning lady. Ours comes every 2 weeks. Ask around – I’m sure a neighbor has a recommendation.

    • Good idea! Didn’t even think of that….although I don’t have too many friends that have a cleaning lady so it might be hard to come by, but I’m sure I could find someone 🙂 Thanks for your input Tara.

  3. Thank you for featuring Mod Maids on your blog! We love moms and understand that it’s hard for families and even singles to keep their home clean, especially when there are pets and children running around! It’s good to hire maid services for safety, reliability, and and having the ability to schedule easily. However, if you do choose to hire an individual avoid scams, especially when hiring on Craigslist. All too often we get new clients because they have been scammed off of individual cleaners or the person just didn’t show up. Be safe! If you choose to hire Mod Maids our rates start at $59, and we work with you. Check out ModMaids.com for specials 🙂

  4. Check out Blanca’s Home Cleaning. My nanny’s twin is the owner and I have had the privilege of having seem their work first hand. They folded all my clothes and left a sweet note. You won’t be disappointed and they travel anywhere in the metroplex. Happy hunting!

  5. Even if I had the money, I’m not sure I could hire a maid! I feel so bad watching someone else clean up my messes. Though it would be nice to have someone make my house sparkle!

    • That’s true! The first time would definitely be embarrassing having someone see all the corners and nooks I’ve neglected!

  6. My hubby and I just had this conversation two nights ago.  My standards are way HIGH for myself and it’s like I can’t function with those nasty fuzzy bunny dustballs underneath the computer area! I do have a steamer which has been awesome for cleaning baseboards, the kitchen cabinets, sofas, rugs, bedspread, etc. but we’ve discussed bringing someone in maybe just twice a month to do some heavier deep cleaning of toilets and bathrooms which seem to get neglected.

    • Exactly! It’s the deep cleaning that’s hard to keep up with. Dust bunnies must be dealt with pronto…..but the window sills and ceiling fans, etc. those need much more time devoted to them.
