Well, folks I did it. I successfully made it for eight weeks without peeing my pants, and I’ve successfully turned my mommy-pee-pee dance into a happy dance!

But more importantly, I now have my Kegels on my radar and feel better prepared to work through the times I gotta go – gotta go – gotta go.

As I mentioned in my previous post, thinking about Kegel exercises was right on par with thinking about getting a full eight glasses of water a day….both super helpful and healthy for you, both definitely not on my radar.

So how did it work? How did I go from standing in the middle of the store feeling myself pee my pants (yep, that has happened and I thankfully made it out in time) to now feeling like I have some control over that situation?

Well, I’ll save you all the details of exactly how the device gets used – although I will say it is SUPER easy and non-invasive. But it basically connects to an app on your phone through a Bluetooth signal, and you can watch a graph as it reads exactly what your pubic muscles are doing while it walks you through a series of exercises. It tells you when to engage your muscles and when to release, and it scores you each time.

The point is to get that first muscle engagement super high super fast, and then hold…hold….hold…and then quickly release. What I quickly realized is that I was using my abdominal muscles to squeeze rather than my Kegel muscles, so it trained me to re-think where I’m “holding it in”.

Through the course of eight weeks, I started to get the hang of it and was able to move myself from the beginner mode to the intermediate mode, and I kept myself there through the end of the program.

But perhaps the biggest win through all of this was my husband’s reaction and support.

When I first received the PeriCoach, he had a lot of questions, he gave a lot of looks, and he walked away every time I pulled the device out. All to be expected. But what I didn’t expect was by the time the program was done, any time he’s in the bathroom and I say I have to go, his response has gone from yelling “just hold it!” to “KEGEL!!!”

And I laugh. But I don’t wet myself. Not even a little.
