Staples Surprises Dallas Teachers through DonorsChoose.org

This post has been sponsored by Staples, Inc. to share an important update for all Dallas residents! All opinions are 100% our own.

Last month, Dallas Moms Blog shared a huge announcement from Staples on their partnership with DonorsChoose.org.

DonorsChooseorg Dallas Moms Blog 1If you’re not familiar, DonorsChoose.org is the only website that allows YOU (the parent or community) to help K-12 teachers fill their classrooms with supplies to create a better learning environment – all through publicly requested donations.

Teacher projects are shared on DonorsChoose.org and funding can only be requested by the classroom teachers; not administrators or public officials.

But what makes this website truly unique is that ALL donations go directly to the requested supplies or needs. For example, a teacher at Prestonwood Elementary School in Dallas might ask for wobble balls to help keep kids focused and moving, or an Art teacher at Berkner High School in Richardson ISD may need a color photo printer with cartridges so students can complete assignments. Once the teacher’s goal is met, those items are purchased directly through DonorsChoose.org! You know exactly where your donation went and can see first hand its effect in the classroom.

Staples recognized how much teachers give to their own classrooms and students and took action. To help local teachers prep for “Back to School”, this past June Staples launched StaplesforStudents.comStaples also has made a $1,000,000 donation to DonorsChoose.org to help teachers fulfill their requested needs.

But it gets better. . .

SURPRISE DALLAS!!

Staples has just announced TODAY that EVERY Dallas teacher project posted on DonorsChoose.org (as of this morning) will receive full funding as part of Staples’ $1 million donation to DonorsChoose.org.

As Oprah might say, “You Get Funded! … And You Get Funded! … And You Get Funded!!”

Staples funded the balance of every project listed on DonorsChoose.org in Dallas. With a donation of $185,155, Staples helped 212 Dallas teachers make more happen in local classrooms, impacting more than 33,000 students in the community.

For example, Mrs. Hatcher at W E Greiner Explor Arts Academy will receive nine Kindle Fires for students in her Advancement Via Individual Determination program. Many students in this program will be the first in their families to attend college and don’t have internet access in their homes. The Kindle Fires will give her students instant internet access in class in order to access information such as college and career research projects, information for tutorials and taking virtual tours of college campuses.

As a former teacher who knows MANY K-12 educators, my heart is full for these teachers who are receiving the ultimate gift!

But it doesn’t stop there. It gets even better. . .

Dallas residents can secure even more donations for their local classrooms by using the Staples for Students Geofilter on Snapchat. For a very, very limited time, beginning July 19th and running through July 21st, every use of the Staples for Students Snapchat Geofilter will trigger a $1 donation, up to $5,000, from Staples to be used towards Dallas classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org. (Not sure how to use Snapchat, we wrote a post for you!)

The Geofilter will be available for use in the Staples store in the Preston Forest Shopping Center (located at 11700 Preston Road, STE 720) and in the surrounding area. Plus now through Sept. 10, you can make $1 donation in your local Staples store or on at StaplesforStudents.com.

And of course, DON’T FORGET:: Through September 10, 2016, anyone who spends $25 or more in any Staples store will receive a unique entry code on your receipt to enter to win a $50,000 scholarship GRAND PRIZE plus a trip for two to Los Angeles to meet Katy Perry in person

In addition, four 1st prize winners will win air travel to Los Angeles (with a guest!) for 2 nights and spending money to meet Katy Perry at the VIP Winners Celebration.

Krystal Hurst
Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
