Suburban Vs Urban Living – Part 2 – Back To Dallas

0

Last spring my husband and I started feeling a little bit… restless.  We couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right!  In the fall, I posted about how crazy we felt having a great home in suburbia, but missing our urban lifestyle from before

Well, we finally did it — we made it back to Dallas!  And y’all, Dallas is where we belong — home sweet home!

We aren’t quite in downtown this time.  We found a house in Uptown/Cedar Springs area.  And before you go thinking “fancy, Mrs. Money-Bags” – please know that we took a risk.  We bought a wholesale property that needs a ton of work.  It’s live-able, but we’ve already had to do foundation and roof repairs, deal with a burst water-heater, stolen packages off the front porch – and that’s just scratching the surface of what needs to be done in here.

But despite the laundry list of things we need/want to do to this house (and the several years it will take us to get to all of them) – we are still so much happier down here!

Maybe it’s the grocery store literally outside my front door.  Or the tons of restaurant options in walking distance (Buffalo Wild Wings, Starbucks, Eatzies, Buzzbrews)!

It could be that Klyde Warren Park, Scottish Rite Hospital Park (newly remodeled!) and all my favorite Uptown spots are about 5 minutes away.  And the Dallas Zoo, the Perot Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art, and all things downtown Dallas are all less then a 10 minute drive!

Or maybe it’s that all we have to do is sit on our front porch to watch the city walk by!  The people-watching has always been one of my favorite things about the city.

No place is perfect though, and our new home definitely comes with unique challenges.

Finding and setting up a security system that made us feel safe was a lot of work and came with a hefty price tag.  And then we still had packages stolen off our front porch.  But thankfully our Dallas police are on it – and they caught the guy in just over a week!

While I have seen a few kids around, we are definitely in the minority here.  Especially with 2 little ones.  Sometimes I feel like the odd people out, with our big family of 4/6 taking up small urban tables at any restaurant.  But I know I’ll just have to get used to the looks.

And while we have found all the parks, I still need to find a dance studio and somewhere for the kids to play soccer down here.  Moving over the holidays wasn’t our best plan and I feel like I’ve been playing catch up ever since.

But the good far outweighs the bad.  And we are so happy to be home!

Now, any other families in Uptown area want to meet up for a playdate?
