It’s the day of the week I never look forward to; the day I need some inspiration to do what’s best for me. It’s the day I have to run on the treadmill. I’ve never enjoyed running, but it’s my commitment to myself.

While running, I listen to Pandora, and I count every song that comes on because I knew after the fifth song, I’m done. Finally, today, I was down to the last song and I could see my finish line. The last song was one that I’d never heard before. Suddenly I felt a new strength to carry me on. My only focus was on the powerful lyrics to the song.

This time this is my fight song. Take back my life song. Prove I’m alright song. My power’s turned on. Starting right now I’ll be strong, I’ll play my fight song.

It was Rachel Platten’s Fight Song.

Listening to the song it made me think about the breast cancer survivors that will be honored at the Mad Hatter Tea Party at Methodist Richardson Medical Center. These are the women who never gave up on their fight. I thought about their family and loved ones that will attend to show their support and encouragement. I thought about how special this event will be because it celebrates Methodist Richardson’s new leading edge 3-D mammography that improves early detection of breast cancer. With the new innovative technology, cancer is recognized earlier, and that is saving lives.

The Mad Hatter Tea Party will celebrate these great achievements with a festive tea party filled with decorative hats, relaxing massages, and fun makeovers. As I ran on the treadmill, I was motivated by a room filled chatter and laughter from strong women supporting one another. The Mad Hatter Tea Party is one of many ways Methodist Richardson helps ladies during their journey after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

This event, held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., will be fun, festive, informative and inspirational. The party will help these women recognize their strength and show women with breast cancer around the world that they are revered.

I imagined the ladies leaving the tea party feel powerful just like the last line of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song, “A lot of fight left in me, now I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me.”
I hope you can join me at the Mad Hatter Tea Party. If you or anyone you know has fought or is fighting breast cancer, we hope you join in on the festivities. Registration is FREE, but space is limited.
